Rehab of the injury
Rehab 1 – Rehab 2 – Rehab 3 – Rehab 4
Acute phase:
Knee joint capsule damage should be treated as follows: You should start the acute phase from start, even if it has been 12 hours or more, before you get started.
0-5 min. (or as soon as possible after the injury has occurred.)
- Elevate the ankle above the heart.
- Apply compression bandage if available or squeeze lightly with your hands around the ankle.
5min-40min.
- Assess whether or not the injury should be overseen by professionals.
- Lie down, do bending and stretching exercises with the knee until the pain limit. (It must not hurt) So that you allow for the fluid to escape and reduce the swelling.
The rest of day 1 and 2, unless it’s overseen by professionals.
- Keep a tight compression bandage for the rest of day 1, however not so tight, that you feel your leg and foot become numb.
- Lie down and make movements below the pain limit, as much as possible
- Don’t walk too much on the injury and definitely not if there’s pain.
Sub acute phase:
Dag 3-100
- Use ice for 20-40 min. If there is a swelling with exertion.
- Start knee joint rehab 1-4
- Walk as normally as possible on the injury, as long as there is no pain involved
- Use supportive bandages, sports taping or kinesiology tape, when you return to sports, training and work out.
