Description of pelvic pain

The pelvic pain and problems are frequent and often the cause of global pain and problems in the body. The pelvis has many features, it’s the centerpiece of the body, a point of balance, it is the pelvis we use to sit on, where new life grows, where waste is disposed of, where the back rests and it’s the attachment site for many of the large muscles of the body and thereby the central stability point in body. This means that pelvic pain may be debilitating and cause many other problems in the body such as herniated disc, knee problems, shoulder pain, as well as neck pain. Many times, pelvic pain becomes chronic since pelvic misalignment doesn’t necessarily hurt initially. You may for example have been unlucky and crashed your bike when you were 4 years old, and since then built a crooked structure in ligaments, muscles, and other tissues. Imbalances that later in life mean that the pelvis becomes a cause of chronic pain. Three typical reasons behind pelvic misalignment:

  • Increased tension in the muscles.
  • A locking in the joint between the hip and the sacrum (SI joint).
  • Uneven leg lengths.
Symptoms of pelvic pain
  • Pain in the pelvic region, including buttock, lower back and hip.
  • Radiating pain, tingling, stinging or sleeping sensations in the legs and back.
  • Stiffness in the lower back.
  • Functional back sway due to muscle tension, which prevents movements of the back that trigger the pain.
  • Reduced mobility.
  • Consequential damage in lower and upper body.
Examination and diagnosis

Treatment

Roughly speaking, you can divide the treatment of misalignment of the pelvis, depending on whether it is acute or chronic. And whether it requires short-term or long-term treatment including rehabilitation of the pelvis. Or whether rehabilitation of the stability is sufficient.

  • Rehab for pelvic pain (see below).
  • Manual therapy.
  • Chiropractic treatment.
  • Physiotherapy treatment.
  • Kinesiology tape.
  • Spascupreel (2 tabl. 3 g. daily for 8 days).
